Serena Shapard
SP USA Intern
Serena is a career-changer into medicine. After earning her Bachelor’s in Psychology, she started her career at IBM, where she established the User Experience (UX) Research practice for ibm.com and led its growth to a global team of researchers, content strategists, and information architects.
While her ongoing enjoyment of work as a volunteer EMT planted the seed of a career pivot, last spring’s New York Times article on Social Prescribing inspired her to formally make the switch. She is currently working with neuroscientist Dr. Wendy Suzuki, Dean of New York University’s College of Arts and Science, studying the brain-changing benefits of exercise and developing initiatives to support the wellbeing of college undergraduates. She will begin her postbaccalaureate premedical studies this summer at Bryn Mawr College before applying to medical school.
